Original structure, contemporary extension
While the foundational elements of the house have
been preserved, a modern extension at the back now accommodates additional spaces not originally planned by Alsop, including a guest bedroom with an ensuite, an underground play area for children due to the sloping terrain, and an expanded kitchen featuring a
butler’s pantry.
“Our clients were enthusiastic about incorporating unique elements, understanding the rich history of the house. We aimed for a design that honoured the past while avoiding a static museum feel, blending their collection of vintage furniture and objects seamlessly.”
– Bianca Baldi, Associate Interior Designer
“The new outdoor dining pavilion structure in concrete was very carefully positioned between the existing house and the large elm tree. It’s a functional space, but also a sculptural element that plays off the original Rodney Alsop design of the house.”
-Nick Travers, Director
The original house is north-facing with most of the garden to the front of the property. We contained this primary outdoor area behind a high boundary wall for privacy from the street and included a magnificent pool with a ha-ha wall strategy for compliance and to create a seamless vista from the main living and dining room without the visual distraction of a typical pool fence.
