The Leica Melbourne flagship store is a carefully curated project blending heritage architecture with contemporary, functional spaces.
In collaboration with German office Holzrausch, the four-storey retail space includes a gallery, photography studio, academy room, and rooftop terrace – making this the world’s largest and most extensive Leica store.

“Every element of the store is designed with the intention of creating a sensory journey. From the tactile surfaces to the lighting that highlights each product, our aim was to encourage visitors to engage with the space in a meaningful way.”
– Nick Travers, Director
The multi-functional space occupies four-levels within a historic 100 year old Art Deco building.
The store’s ground floor showcases Leica’s iconic range of cameras, lenses, and accessories in a sleek, minimalist setting that mimics the precision and elegance of the products.
Upstairs, the experience deepens with a gallery exhibition space, an academy room for workshops, and a fully equipped photographic studio.
To retain the historical character and elevate the functionality of the building, the outside walls were preserved, while the interiors were reimagined to create dynamic, flexible spaces. The layout introduces thoughtfully crafted voids to maximize light and visual impact, providing an open, airy feel that invites exploration.
The layout flows seamlessly from one area to the next, ensuring that each moment spent within the store feels intentional and immersive.
The icon brand’s keys values: timeless design, innovative technology, and an unparalleled passion for photography were at the forefront of every detail decision.
