The Ever-Evolving
Art House
From the outset, the design of this new home has been a collaborative journey, with Director Nick Travers actively assisting the client in selecting the ideal property.
“They sought our advice while considering one property over another, and we highlighted the opportunities and constraints to aid their decision-making.” Ideally situated near the city yet enveloped by trees and a beautiful garden, this property offered remarkable potential and an amazing retreat.
“One of the project’s delights was seeing how the various artworks found their place, especially the key pieces we considered during the design, like the large painting in the dining room by James Drinkwater.”
– Claire McGuire, Senior Project Architect

As the design progressed, the choice of materials like stones and joinery was influenced by the artwork, ensuring the house had enough “breathing room” for future
art rotations. Joinery colours were intentionally subdued, allowing each artwork to fill the space in its own way, knowing that future pieces might change the room’s dynamic as the client actively rotated their collection.

Anchoring the kitchen is a sublime piece of marble that Claire McGuire, Senior Project Architect worked with the client in both waiting for the right marble to be available, and in selecting the slabs that would be used. The final choice was a highly figured but subtle grey-white marble with a beige undertone that gives it warmth and allows it to work with the reclaimed timber floors.
