Our design for Veneziano’s flagship café in Richmond references the industrial nature of the building and the fact that it is a functioning warehouse and roaster. We focused on the notion of being fully immersed and having a complete coffee experience in the one place.

Housed in a repurposed industrial space, the robust materials not only complement the existing aesthetic but also the functional purpose of the building. Materials include polished concrete flooring, brushed stainless steel, rendered surfaces and timber accents throughout.
Colour blocking the render to the coffee servery and surrounding concrete floor at the centre of the café creates a point of focus in the space. Large double height windows facing the street and the use of greenery encourages an indoor/outdoor feel.
“Design should celebrate site history, local culture and bring stories to life.”
– Steve McKeag, Director

It’s all about the coffee.
A unique feature at the heart of the café is a coffee servery, a standalone island positioned away from the entry and walls.
As a statement design element, the servery delivers a functional purpose exemplifying the core of the business – coffee. Encouraging customers to ‘sit at the counter’ and channelling the feel of a bar, the seats at the end of the servery promote conversation with the baristas while allowing customers to gain a closer look at the ‘bean to cup’ process.
